Le Castellana Caves (Ba) will host, from Thursday 11 a Sunday July 28, in Piazzale Anelli, the events of the World Dance Movement – The International Festival, art, dance and entertainment events of the largest international dance stage held in Italy, in Castellana Grotte, throughout the month of July (from 7th to 28th).
Within the project Crossing Arts, funded by the Puglia Region with the Municipality of Castellana Grotte and Grotte di Castellana srl, the karst site thus becomes the center of international dance and entertainment for almost 20 days thanks to the presence of important companies, international artists and some of the most important choreographers in the world, but also thanks to the enthusiasm and talent of young people from over 20 different countries.
It's just starting Thursday July 11, at 21,30 pm, with the show “Kalinka” of the company Nando and Maila, a journey through traditional circus characters staged through a contemporary circus language, including music, gags, aerial acrobatics and juggling. The programme is scheduled for Friday the 12th (at 21 pm) and Saturday the 13th (starting at 18 pm). Gala (choreography by the artistic director Michèle Assaf and Bruno Collinet, Claudia Cavalli and Vito Cassano, Tiziana Pagliarulo, Joshua Pelatzky, Veronica Peparini, Desmond Richardson and Anbeta Toromani) and theInternational Dance Competition of the World Dance Movement. It will be up to “The Song of Ithaca” of the company Eleina D close the first week with the show of Sunday July 14 at 9:30 pm: aerial dance show that revisits Ulysses' epic journey in a modern key.
“Little Red Riding Hood” of the companies The Moon in the Bed e Eleina D opens the second week: Thursday July 18 At 9:30 pm on the stage in Piazzale Anelli, a show that, through the body, unspoken language, and a dance of symbols and quotations, reimagines the Brothers Grimm's fairy tale. Friday July 19th, again at 21,30 pm, it will be the turn of Ballet National de Marseille present “(Maybe Tomorrow)” by Angel Martinez Hernandez and Vito Giotta, a performance that addresses the fears, habits, dreams and desires that shape our society and the role of women in relation to otherness. Saturday 20th July, at 21pm, will still be Gala, this time with choreography by Kledi Kadiu, Clarissa Mucci, Bruno Collinet, Joshua Pelatzky, Sabatino D'Eustacchio and Federica Angelozzi, Michele Assaf and Bill Goodson. Sunday July 21th, at 21,30 pm, will close the second week “Weaving Puccini”, production signed by Kataklò Academy and Oltheatre, a choreographic project created by Giulia Staccioli based on an original idea by Vito Cassano, with the contribution of Accademia Kataklò master choreographers Fabrizio Calanna, Vito Cassano, and Alberta Palmisano. The show was created to pique audiences' interest in artistic influences, to rediscover a historic national musical repertoire with meanings and content that are still extremely relevant, and to enjoy the quality of the physical, theatrical, aerial, and choreographic gestures of the 10 performers on stage.
The third and final week opens with “All Ways” of Sharon Fridman Company, under the artistic direction of the Israeli Sharon Fridman: Thursday July 25 At 9:30 pm, Piazzale Anelli will be thrilled by the seven dancers on stage, constantly moving as if they were a single body, a choreographic movement based on an extremely physical yet highly poetic dance. Friday July 26th, at 21,30 pm, the last international guests of the Castellana caves: the Peridance Contemporary Dance Company of New York. Saturday 27th (at 19,30 pm) and Sunday 28th (at 21 pm) the program includesInternational Aerial Competition and Gala (choreography by Sharon Fridman, Igal Perry, Claudia Cavalli and Vito Cassano, Eliaz Lazaridis, Joshua Pelatzky, Michele Assaf, Bruno Collinet, Macia Del Prete and Medhi Walerski) of World Dance Movement.
Three weeks, twelve shows, a stage and a mix of art that starts from the World Dance Movement and extends to the show Hell in the Cave – Dancing Verses in the Dark Air (scheduled for Saturday 6th, Sunday 14th and Friday 26th July, starting at 21pm, in the Grave delle grotte di Castellana).
In addition to the live shows for most of the month of July, as part of the WDM festival and always from the stage in Piazzale Anelli at the Castellana caves, the programme also includes outdoor cinema, with films on the theme of dance and performance: La La Land by Damien Chazelle (Monday the 15th), The Producers by Susan Stroman (Tuesday the 16th), The Artist by Michel Hazanavicius (Wednesday the 17th), The Greatest Showman by Michael Gracey (Tuesday the 23rd), and Everyone Say I Love You by Woody Allen (Wednesday the 24th). Screenings begin at 9:30 pm.
