Wednesday, January 23, 2019 the Castellana Caves srl, Under the patronage of Municipality of Castellana Grotte, celebrates the 81st anniversary of the discovery of the Castellana Caves, a karst complex among the main tourist attractions in Puglia.
To celebrate this important anniversary, to take stock of the 2018 activities (the year of celebrations for the 80th anniversary, which opened last January with a visit from the President of the Republic, Hon. Sergio Mattarella), and to define the guidelines for the 2019 financial year, two different events are scheduled.
PROGRAM
All 11 hours of Grave of the Castellana Caves scheduled for the Santa Mass The service will be officiated by the Bishop of the Diocese of Conversano-Monopoli, His Excellency Giuseppe Favale. As per tradition, regional and local institutions and authorities will be present, along with a representative of the school children of Castellana Grotte.
A follow celebratory descent From the mouth of the Grave, curated by the Puglia Grotte Group, to relive, 81 years later, the exploratory undertaking of Professor Franco Anelli on the morning of January 23, 1938.
All 18 hours of Ceremonial Hall of the Municipality of Castellana Grotte, instead, the public conference with speeches from the institutions and the Board of Directors of Grotte di Castellana srl. The mayor of Castellana Grotte will be present. Francesco De Ruvo, the Tourism Councillor of the Municipality of Castellana Grotte John Philomena and the Board of Directors of Grotte di Castellana srl (president Victor Casulli, vice president Francesco Manghisi, councilor Maria Lacasella).
