With the month of August, the appointment with is renewed “A Night with Sirius”, initiative ofSirio Astronomical Cultural Association', head of the Astronomical Observatory located at Castellana Caves (Ba) at the panoramic terrace of the “Franco Anelli” Speleological Museum, which offers a rich calendar, an opportunity to observe the sky and learn about it.
Six events are scheduled. It will begin Monday 10 and Wednesday 12 August with "A Night with Shooting Stars”, two special evenings that coincide with the ideal time to admire meteors and their luminous trails. The "A Night with Sirius" program will continue Monday 17th, Friday 21st, Monday 24th and Thursday 27th August, and on each occasion a double appointment will be scheduled for observation: the first at 20:30 (briefing at 8.00 pm), the second at 22:00 (briefing at 9.30 pm). The astronomical observation includes a guided experience with the naked eye of the celestial sphere and the viewing of Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon (when visible) through the telescope with the Professor Niki RizziTo participate, please register at segreteria@grottedicastellana.it or call +39 080 4998211. Tickets are €7 per person (free for children under 8). A briefing will be held at the "Franco Anelli" Speleological Museum. Observation will only be possible in favorable weather conditions. In the event of adverse weather forecasts, the evening will be postponed. You will be notified by phone at least 12 hours before the event.
Another new feature for the month of August concerns the visiting hours of the Castellana Caves, with some small changes and the addition of the full tour at 18:00 PM. These are the opening hours until August 30th: full tour (an approximately 3-kilometer itinerary leading to the White Cave, lasting 100 minutes) in Italian at 9:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 14:00 PM, 15:00 PM, 16:00 PM, 17:00 PM, and 18:00 PM; full tour in English at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 15:00 PM, and 17:00 PM; Partial tour (approximately 1 kilometer long, 50 minutes to complete) in Italian at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 13:00 pm, 14:30 pm, 15:30 pm, and 17:30 pm.
Tickets for guided tours of the Castellana Caves can be purchased online through TicketOne or from authorized retailers up to 30 minutes before the tour time, or directly at the Castellana Caves ticket office.
