With the month of August, the appointment with is renewed “A Night with Sirius”, initiative of Sirio Aps, association responsible for the Astronomical Observatory located at Castellana Caves at the panoramic terrace of the “Franco Anelli” Speleological Museum, which offers a rich calendar, an opportunity to observe the sky and learn about it.
Eight events are scheduled for 2021: August 6, 10, 13, 17, 19, 24, 27 and 31On each date there will be a double appointment for observation: the first at 20:30 (briefing at 8.00 pm), the second at 22:00 (briefing at 9.30 pm). The astronomical observation includes a guided experience with the naked eye of the celestial sphere and the viewing of Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon (when visible) through the telescope with the Professor Niki RizziTo participate, please register at segreteria@grottedicastellana.it or call +39 080 4998211. Tickets are €7 per person (free for children under 8). A briefing will be held at the "Franco Anelli" Speleological Museum. Observation will only be possible in favorable weather conditions. In the event of adverse weather forecasts, the evening will be postponed. You will be notified by phone at least 12 hours before the event.
"A Night with Sirius" enriches the summer calendar of the Castellana Caves, one of Puglia's main tourist attractions. The month of August features special Speleonight tours, which can be explored in the dark using only helmet lights, and the Hell in the Cave show, a performance of Dante's Inferno at a depth of 70 meters. These tours are also available for a variety of visits to the karst complex, including a short tour, which takes about 50 minutes, and a longer one, which leads to the resplendent White Cave.
