A full calendar of events has been set up to explore the Castellana Caves with special SpeleoChristmas visits (Speleonight and Speleofamily designed for the Christmas period), led by expert speleologists from the Puglia Grotte Group.
The Speleonight tour, a nocturnal adventure that relives the emotions of early explorers by following the entire route to the White Cave with the lights off, including an alternative to the tourist route, is scheduled for December 9 and 23, 2022, at 7:00 PM and Saturday, January 19, 2023, at 19:00 PM. The outward journey is in darkness, with only the lights on the helmets provided, offering the opportunity to walk alone in the desert corridor. Upon arrival at the White Cave, the lights are turned back on, allowing visitors to admire the caves from a panoramic view on the return journey.
Speleofamily, a multisensory tour for families and all ages, offers a chance to explore hidden corners of the caves and learn about their history and geology. It's scheduled for December 18th at 12:30 PM, December 30th at 17:00 PM, January 6th at 12:30 PM, January 8th at 17:00 PM, and January 15th, 22nd, and 29th at 12:30 PM. Also designed for children ages 4 and up, Speleofamily offers an alternative route to the traditional tourist route. Led by expert speleologists, you'll explore using only the light of your helmet for an exciting adventure among the caves and concretions of the Castellana karst site.
