Two new experiences, previewed in November and December, to discover the karst cavities
from a new and different point of view: “Geotour Experience” and “Cave&Star Experience” are
For everyone. New dates for Speleo Night, Speleo Family, and the timeless "Hell in the Cave."
Visits to the karst site of the Castellana Caves are "never all the same": the
expert and passionate speleologists who love to underline this uniqueness claim,
remembering how many different ways it is possible to live the experience, discovering each time
different details of the rich underground fauna, of the variegated calcareous concretions, of plays of light
and sounds of nature that put on a show.
To offer visitors a new exciting proposal, the list of experiences to
living inside the Caves is enriched with two new exclusive itineraries, suitable for both
both adults and children: “Geotour Experience” and “Cave&Star Experience”.
The “Geotour Experience” is an interactive journey to discover the phenomenon of “karst” and
of the wonders of the underground: contact (not only visual) with different types of rocks and
of calcareous concretions of different origins, will stimulate the learning of phenomena
biological, chemical and physical processes so far removed from our daily lives that they almost seem unreal.
experiential visit (duration 2 hours) will take place with a first stop at the Speleological Museum
“Franco Anelli” and then go down into the cave where the beauties of the site will be illustrated with
the help of lights that will promote an emotional and sensorial approach to the tour, inside
of the short itinerary.
The second route (duration 2h30min), “Cave&Star Experience”, is dedicated to enthusiasts
of astronomical observationAt 17pm, after the closure of the underground site, the excursion will begin
along a stretch of the cave located in the area of the "large caves", stimulating the
understanding the feelings of the first explorers, their fears and emotions generated
from the unknown: the concept of “time” will be revealed, highlighting the link between geological time and
astronomical time, between inner exploration and experiential activity in infinite space.
After an initial experiential visit to the cave, participants will stop at the Museum
speleological, where another “journey” will begin, this time towards the immensity of the cosmos and the
Wonders of the starry sky. Led by expert astronomers from the Astronomical Observatory
Sirius, participants will practice recognizing the brightest stars and orienting themselves
Finding the cardinal points using only the naked eye. The workshop then includes direct viewing of the celestial objects visible during the evening through a telescope.
There are only two dates available for each of these new events: the 19th
November and December 8th for the “Geotour Experience” (17pm); November 26th (17pm) and the
December 9th (18pm) for “Cave&Star Experience”. The two itineraries are open to a limited number of people.
