The musical project
A tribute to the great Domenico Modugno, a figure who has remained central to the Italian singer-songwriter scene.
The passing of time has not affected the exuberant modernity of the famous Apulian singer, on the contrary, especially in the last decade Modugno it was recovered by the new sound wave linked to folk rock which claimed its lineage.
Domenico Modugno He had a multifaceted career: as a songwriter, he was the first to blend popular music with singer-songwriter music, and then embraced and reinvented the world of pop music. He was also a theater and film actor, a truly unique figure in Italy.
This show intends to contextualize the art of Domenico Modugno returning it to its homeland. It's no coincidence that Puglia is currently experiencing a sort of Renaissance. Just think of how Salento has successfully promoted the musical culture associated with the Taranta and Pizzica, making it a popular phenomenon throughout Italy and abroad, and reaping a significant return in terms of image and economic benefits.
Thus, a figure like Modugno, who from Polignano a Mare, in the province of Bari, spread his roots around the world, can be the linchpin around which to build the new music of this part of Puglia. A concert that revisits the life and songs of the great singer-songwriter Domenico Modugno in the form of a theatrical and musical oratorio.

On stage, a complex and complete musical ensemble (strings, rhythm section, strings) of great quality and sonic impact redesigns the singer-songwriter's melodies with charm, elegance and strong emotional charge.
The music accompanies the theatrical story illustrated by the narrative voice of Maria Giaquinto (who also directs) who leads the viewer on an emotional journey through the sparkling and pathos-filled poetry of Domenico Modugno, recalling an important piece of Italian history and customs from the post-war period to the present day.
The voices that alternate in the diachronic reinterpretation of the songs—from the early folk in the Salento dialect to the singer-songwriter music—are those of some of Southern Italy's greatest musical talents, from Fabrizio Piepoli and Maria Giaquinto of Radicanto to Nabil, the historic voice of Radiodervish.
The production, produced and staged by the same ensemble, is inspired by “song theatre” as a musical and theatrical art form.
In song theatre, the lyrics, the music (some songs are actually macro-texts), the monologues, and the lighting all contribute to broadening the emotional tension, structuring themselves, through their combination, in a performance that links the singer-songwriter to a dialogic approach with the spectator, addressing issues of strong social and cultural impact.
On stage, a woman journeys through the seasons of Domenico Modugno's life, from Puglia to the north, from his passion for theater and cinema, to radio, to song, to the Sanremo Music Festival, to his international career.
