“In the world of tourist guidance – from the sea of Monopoli to the Castellana Caves.” This is the title of the initiative carried out in agreement between the Castellana Caves and “G. Galilei – M. Curie” High School in Monopoli, which involves some students in a training activity included in the transversal skills and orientation paths.
Seven students from the fourth-grade B program at the Monopoli Linguistic High School are participating in the project with the tourist website, working for thirty hours, partly remotely and partly in person. The first phase of the initiative will take place entirely online with distance learning on tourism and territorial marketing with the Dr. Giulia Monaco, executive officer of Grotte di Castellana srl, on safety and underground environment by 'sengineer Marco Pellegrini, RSPP safety manager of the tourist site, and on elements of speleology and karst Professor Alessandro Reina, scientific director of the karst complex.
The second part of the project, however, will take the students directly to the Castellana Caves for two different experiences: one dedicated to the show “Hell in the Cave” with the director Enrico Romita and the playwright Giusy Frallonardo, and the other which will see them involved in a visit in language of the route. All under the supervision of the Professor Massimo Mirizio, project tutor.
The idea was born following a previous initiative involving students from the Monopoli High School about two years ago on a special visit. It was strongly supported by the students involved, particularly Miriam Giannuzzi from Castellana, and was welcomed with great pleasure by the Board of Directors. has explained Victor Casulli, president of Grotte di Castellana srl "Projects like this are important for the school, allowing students to move away from the confines of the institution and into the working and social world of the local area. For the caves, it's an opportunity to get closer to the scholastic world and interact with future generations, gathering their impressions and opinions."
The training project, currently underway with online lessons, will conclude in September 2021 with meetings at the karst site.
