9 tourists flock to the Castellana Caves during the May 1st long weekend.
The number of visitors has more than doubled compared to last year
Castellana Grotte, May 2, 2017 – The Castellana Caves' positive momentum continues. As the tourist season opens, the karst site, "Apulia's Wonder," is recording record numbers.
After the boom in visitors between Easter and Easter Monday, the May Day long weekend saw more than double the number of visitors compared to the same period last year. In the three days between Saturday, April 29th and Monday, May 1st, the Castellana Caves welcomed 9.000 tourists.
In 2016 – the record year with 310 total visitors – around 4.000 tourists came to the Caves.
The Board of Directors of the Grotte Company applauds the result. “Despite the beautiful days that could have encouraged tourists to go to the beach, we have more than doubled the tourist presence” notes Vice President Vincenzo Montaruli. “We are very pleased with this further result in terms of tourist attendance at the Castellana Caves, which bodes well for another record-breaking year. We can therefore say without a doubt that the excellent strategic planning initiated in recent years by the Ciliberti Presidency is bearing fruit.“From 2013 to today, in fact, visitors to the Castellana Caves have increased by 41%, resulting in a 50% increase in the company's turnover and the fee paid to the Municipality.
