From December 7 2022 to January 23, 2023 Municipality of Castellana Grotte e Castellana Caves srl promote Winter Squares: the festivities and Christmas spirit in the city center, the events and the Living Nativity Scene inside the Castellana caves, the anticipation for the arrival of the new year, the return of the Notte delle Fanove and the anniversary of the discovery of the caves for 50 days of events and initiatives, between lights and traditions, faith and devotion, decorations and entertainment in the main squares of the city and in the Grave of the karst complex.
Piazza Garibaldi, Piazza Nicola e Costa, and Largo San Leone Magno, along with the surrounding streets, will be the main squares of the Christmas season and the first days of the new year. Decorations and light displays will accompany musical events (Colfischiosenza, Beppe Delre, Modena City Ramblers, Nina's Quartet, White Queen, and Serena Brancale) and the initiatives at Santa's House in Piazza Garibaldi, as well as the musical events in Piazza Nicola e Costa. 2023 will also see the return of the Notte delle Fanove on January 11th, with the traveling fire festival and folk music concerts that will extend throughout the first ten days of January. This calendar also includes a rich program of purely Christmas, sporting, and cultural events, with some surprises that will further characterize the entire period and the values included in the Winter Squares. The events in the city center are free and organized by the Municipality of Castellana Grotte and Grotte di Castellana srl.
The Castellana Caves will also open their doors to the calendar of festive events with some appointments that will complete the rich tourist offer of the karst site. Winter Caves 2022, in addition to the traditional tourist visits, the special Speleofamily and Speleonight events and the reruns of the Hell in the Cave show, three unmissable events of international importance will be added: Giuliano Sangiorgi in concert, Job Covatta in recital and the Piano Concerto in Midair. Three major events featuring music, entertainment, and unique performances, just before Christmas, in the enchanting setting of the Caverna della Grave. Meanwhile, following last year's success, the Living Nativity Scene in the caves will be back again for the upcoming holidays.
The official inauguration of Winter Squares, instead, is scheduled in wide Porta Grande in Castellana Grotte Wednesday 7 December 2022 18 hours with the show of the Dancing fountains, a water, light and music show that will also be repeated on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 December 2022.
On Wednesday, December 7, 2022, the Karaoke Bodega will open in Piazza Nicola e Costa and Santa's House in Piazza Garibaldi. Finally, on Thursday, December 8, and Friday, December 9, 2022, the cave events Hell in the Cave and Speleonight will make their debut, respectively.
