Following last year's resounding success, the Wanted Chorus' reenactment of the Passion of Christ returns on Saturday, March 28th. This unique and moving event, presented twice, sends a powerful message of condemnation against the death penalty from the depths of the Earth.
Castellana Caves, March 26, 2015 – The Grave, the evocative entrance cave to the marvelous underground world of the Castellana Caves, will host the re-enactment of the Passion of Christ, performed by the Wanted Chorus, with a double performance of PassionchrisT on Saturday, March 28 (at 8:00 pm and 9:30 pm).
Just days before Easter and on the eve of a significant date like Palm Sunday, the Castellana Caves will be the unique natural setting for an emotionally charged experience not to be missed. This is a deeply human passion, an emblematic experience of death, exposing the barbarity behind the obscure execution and silent condemnation still perpetuated in many countries. PassionchrisT, in fact, is both a narrated and sung tale that retraces the human ordeal of Jesus, projecting it into a distant future; an introspective journey that will project the audience into a tomorrow dominated by power and corruption, bringing to light all the questions that see us as complicit and observers of human wickedness. This year, the reenactment of the Passion of Christ, staged by the Wanted Chorus, also features the participation of Amnesty International through the presence of the organization's local representatives.
PassionchrisT, produced by the Wanted Chorus, directed by Vincenzo Schettini, in collaboration with Grotte di Castellana srl, is sponsored by the Municipality of Castellana Grotte, the Puglia Region, and the Metropolitan City of Bari, and sponsored by the Banca di Credito Cooperativo di Castellana Grotte. In case of inclement weather, the show will still go on. Only a portion of the Grave cavern is exposed to the elements, and rain often adds to the evocative atmosphere.
