The summer season is over, it's time to take stock of the Castellana Caves (Ba), which once again confirms its position among Puglia's top tourist destinations, recording impressive numbers. A total of 154 visitors were recorded from the beginning of the year through September 30, a 35% increase compared to the 2020 total.
During the summer months in particular, many tourists flocked to the region to visit the Castellana karst site. In detail, in July, there were 38 visitors (up 65% compared to 2020), in August 62 (up 12%), and in September 36 (up 40%). “These figures are certainly not comparable to pre-pandemic records, but they are undoubtedly extraordinary when considered in relation to the reference period. - commented Victor Casulli, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Castellana Caves srl The imposed closures, the reduced number of groups, the suspension of school trips, and the almost total absence of foreign tourists throughout the first part of the year, even in significantly fewer numbers during the summer months, have had a significant impact. Despite everything, the Castellana Caves have once again confirmed their position as one of Puglia's main paid tourist attractions, as demonstrated by the excellent results of the special Speleonight and Speleofamily visits and the Hell in the Cave show.
As always, in fact, the comments were much appreciated Speleonight e Speleofamily, as well as Hell in the Cave, which again in September received excellent public response. Numerous special tours were organized to meet the growing demand from tourists, while the show on Dante's Inferno, staged in the Caverna della Grave, continues to sell out.
"After the summer's success, we're preparing for a winter season with various initiatives in the pipeline, the launch of redevelopment activities in the cave area, and an eye on future planning." – concluded Casulli.
