With Job Covatta in Recital It was inaugurated yesterday, Sunday 18 December, Christmas in the Caves 2022, program of three unmissable events organized in the Caverna della Grave delle Castellana Caves on the occasion of the festive period, which is part of the context of Winter Squares, the extensive program of events in Castellana Grotte (Ba) scheduled from 7 December 2022 to 23 January 2023 and organized by Municipality of Castellana Grotte and the Castellana Caves srl.
In the suggestive natural setting of the caves, Covatta entertained the audience in line with his style, where irony and satire intertwine at times with science and at times with the Charter of Children's Rights, playful but at the same time leaving the spectator with more than one reflection. Also on stage Ugo Gangheri (on the ropes), Giosy Cincotti (accordion and piano) and Ernesto Nobili (guitar).
The Christmas in the Caves series will continue with two other events. Sold out has already been announced for "Giuliano Sangiorgi sings the Stars". Wednesday, December 21st at 21:00 a.m.Inside the magical and mysterious Caverna della Grave of the Castellana Caves, where time seems suspended, Giuliano Sangiorgi will retrace the stages of his artistic development, performing songs by the finest Italian singer-songwriters, which guided him as a star throughout his musical development, ultimately influencing his imagination and poetics. Alternating between piano and guitar, he will perform, alongside Raffaele Casarano, a refined repertoire of absolute masterpieces by De André, Tenco, Endrigo, Dalla, and many others, now embedded in the collective memory and sentiment of each generation, like imposing stalagmites in the history of Italian music.
Thursday, December 22nd at 21:00 PM, instead, to close the Christmas events in the Caves will be Mid-Air Plan, an amazing aerial performance by Bruno Montrone at the piano. The abyss of the Caverna della Grave will host a piano and its pianist, lowered from over 65 meters above, suspended in mid-air. Everyone will be looking up into the depths of the earth to admire a unique concert and be transported by the piano's notes and the performance of some of the world's greatest pop hits, revisited with soul and jazz influences. For the occasion, Montrone will be accompanied on vocals by Serena Grittani and on saxophone by Gianfranco Menzella. Tickets for the show are available online. TicketOne
Christmas in the Caves is organized by Grotte di Castellana with the patronage of the Municipality of Castellana Grotte, a project carried out in collaboration with Pugliapromozione WeAreinPuglia, the Regional Tourism Agency, Teatro Pubblico Pugliese – FSC Funds 2014/2020 Pact for Puglia “Strategic tourism plan Puglia365 communication and promotion of the destination and the tourism product”.
Furthermore, also on the occasion of the Christmas holidays and in the context of Piazze d'Inverno, the appointment with the Living Nativity Inside the Castellana Caves, a one-of-a-kind performance takes place 70 meters underground. A one-kilometer-long trail with over 100 participants in period costumes relives the Nativity and a meticulously reconstructed Bethlehem amidst caves, stalactites, and stalagmites. Six events are scheduled: December 28 and 29, 2022, and January 4, 5, 7, and 8, 2023. Opening hours are 18:00 PM to 20:30 PM, with group entrances every 15 minutes. Tickets are available at the Castellana Caves ticket office. The Living Nativity Scene is promoted by UNPLI Puglia APS and the Pro Loco Castellana Grotte "Don Nicola Pellegrino" with Grotte di Castellana srl and the Municipality of Castellana Grotte. The event is curated by director Lucio Giordano and set designer Rafox.
Winter Squares, the program of Christmas and winter events organized and promoted by the Municipality of Castellana Grotte and Grotte di Castellana srl, continues in the main city squares. In Piazza Garibaldi, from December 21st to 24th, with the Santa's cottage, workshops for children, food and wine stalls and small craft markets, but also with music and entertainment: Friday, December 23rd at 21 p.m. Serena Brancale in concert, Saturday, December 24th at 11:30 am Christmas Eve in the square with a concert by Diversamente Funk.
