The Castellana Caves are preparing to welcome Russian tourists.

Castellana Grotte, May 30, 2013 Tangible evidence of a marketing strategy implemented just a few months ago by the Castellana Caves, aimed at outreach, networking, and interaction with the Puglia Region, is evident in the preliminary visit of 28 Russian tour operators to the caves to assess whether the karst site could be immediately included in the offerings aimed at Russian tourists.

Russian Tour Operators at the Castellana Caves

The Russians, who a few years ago—after Tuscany and Sardinia, which were besieged by a significant number of high-spending tourists—discovered Puglia, immediately placing it at the top of their desirability rankings. And the feedback was positive. The twenty-eight experts immediately expressed enthusiasm about the caves.
Another group of 30 experts is also expected next week.
The promotional tour stems from effective efforts by the Puglia Region and Puglia Promozione, with whom the new Grotte management immediately sought to re-establish a dialogue and synergy, starting by repositioning the Grotte as the "Wonder of Puglia," the tagline of the new and current logo.
Following the successful participation in the Moscow International Travel Tourism Fair and the extensive promotional efforts with Russian tour operators and travel agencies, the Puglia Region, with its Department of Tourism and the PugliaPromozione agency, have continued the promotional campaign initiated two years ago by PugliaPromozione in collaboration with the Moscow-based tour operator. For the second consecutive year, the agency will operate the weekly charter flight Moscow-Bari and Bari-Moscow, already in operation throughout the summer. This flight has led to an approximately 40% increase in Russian tourists. They are now also expected at the Castellana Caves.
