On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, free tours, a light walk, and an evening event are planned to raise awareness of one of the evils of our time.
From darkness to light, a journey that is both physical and psychological. The Castellana Caves' contribution to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women begins here: from darkness. From the objective darkness of the caves to the mental darkness of those who cannot see their future, those who cannot emerge from a particularly dark period.
In the days in which all of Italy is shocked by the death of the young Giulia Cecchettin, in the days in which there is an awakening of all to stop violence and feminicides, a real emergency in the country, “I am NOT afraid” is the theme of the day which will see the participation of Castellana Grotte and the Municipality of Castellana Grotte, together, in collaboration with the non-profit association DonneXStrada, to provide women with the support and information needed to overcome the difficult situation they find themselves in.
It will start on the morning of November 25th, at 11:00, for a free visit reserved for women, which you can participate in by calling 0804998221 from 9am to 13pmParticipation is free until seats are filled.
In the evening the multi-voiced event will take place in the Caverna della Grave, but it will start on Piazzale Anelli, at 7:30 pm, with “Mi sentirai se grido”, a luminous walk This will lead women to descend into the caves in the dark, armed only with a flashlight. A 30-minute walk into the bowels of the earth to raise awareness about the fight against gender violence, because from the depths, we can and must reemerge.

An important day for the Castellana Caves, which have applied to become one of the Purple Points of the non-profit association DonneXStrada., an organization that addresses violence against women and street safety, through its Purple Points and a network of psychologists and lawyers. Purple Points are safe spaces that welcome women, staffed with trained staff to address gender-based violence and street safety.

There are several initiatives in the area, especially for the evening of November 25th. Among these, the one organized by Grocà, sponsored by the Municipality and held inside the Church of Purgatory, deserves special attention, as does the one organized by the company Grotte di Castellana srl, which will use the Grave cave as a prestigious venue for the quality of the interventions and the emotional impact derived from its unparalleled beauty. We hope the magnificence of our karst complex will serve as a sounding board for a message of great civilization and progress.
