THE CASTELLANA CAVES, PROTAGONISTS OF ULYSSES WITH ALBERTO ANGELA
There is great anticipation for the program hosted by the famous paleontologist who will discuss the Castellana hypogeum site next Saturday, October 10th, in prime time on Rai 3.
Castellana Grotte, October 7, 2015 – For the first time, the Castellana Caves will be the protagonists of the popular format “Ulisse, the pleasure of discovery,” hosted by one of Italy's most famous and beloved paleontologists, Alberto Angela, which will air on Saturday, October 10, at 9:30 pm on Rai 3.
Two days of filming required director Gabriele Cipollitti, whose name is now inextricably linked to the hit show, to feature the Castellana karst site in an episode dedicated to the splendors of Italy's heel.
"Alberto Angela will take us on a discovery of a much-loved Italian region," reads the episode's introduction on the official website, "not only by tourists but also by archaeologists, historians, and intellectuals: Puglia. [...] Ulysses will take us through the diverse and fascinating Apulian landscape: from the sea of Gargano and the Tremiti Islands to the whitewashed houses, enhanced by the blue sky. And then the caves carved out by rivers, like the famous ones in Castellana."
A naturalist, journalist, writer, and son of the great science communicator Piero Angela, Alberto Angela, enraptured by the marvelous underground world, has succeeded in describing and commenting on it with original comparisons and examples, and with his distinctive linguistic signature, explaining even very complicated concepts in completely understandable and easily memorable terms. Among these is his description of the formation of stalagmites, comparing them to a bar of chocolate on a radiator. Also unique and fascinating is his geological dating of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, comparing it to historical events, a testament to a profound culture and profound intellectual talent.
