The Castellana Caves win "Marie Claire" and an Oscar.

A fashion magazine features a photoshoot set in the Castellana Caves, which also become a film set for an international production by German director Mike Van Diem.

Castellana Grotte, October 20, 2016 –The Castellana Caves are increasingly becoming a prestigious backdrop for photo shoots and film sets for national and international productions. This week, the prestigious magazine "Marie Claire" published a fashion feature set in our karst caves. And on Tuesday, October 18, scenes from the film directed by Oscar-winning director Mike Van Diem were filmed in the Grave cave. "This demonstrates the appeal the Caves have today for companies like "Marie Claire" and major film productions," comments Domi Ciliberti, president of Grotte di Castellana srl, with justifiable satisfaction. "Not only do these productions choose us as a location, but the Caves benefit from it, both in terms of promotion and visibility, and in terms of financial return." "Among the countless requests to use the Caves, a careful selection is made," explains President Ciliberti, "and use is reserved for initiatives of national and international prestige and artistic value, provided they are appropriate and respectful of the karst heritage."

An exceptional media event with "Marie Claire," which in its November issue, on newsstands starting October 14th, dedicates a feature to the Caves, titled "Wild," by journalist Elisabetta Massari. Twelve pages of artistic shots portray the model posing among the karst concretions, wearing dresses by major high fashion brands: from Prada to Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Chanel, and Ralph Loren, to name a few. The beautiful and highly sought-after model Alice Peneaca, a spokesmodel for Guess, also posed in the Caves for the magazine's Beauty section. Behind the camera was the renowned French artist Arnaud Pyvka. The Caves received record-breaking media coverage in the magazine, with a circulation of 220,000 copies, and on related social networks; the Instagram account @marieclaireitalia, which has 82,000 followers, has been posting images from the "Wild" photoshoot for days, racking up hundreds of likes and shares.

It's a short step from stills to film. Last Tuesday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 a.m., the Grave Caves rediscovered themselves as a film set, and the F. Anelli Museum became a behind-the-scenes hub bustling with costume designers, makeup artists, and hair stylists. A crew of about thirty people filmed some scenes for the Tulips film "Love, Honor, and a Bike" in the Caves. Directing the shoot was German director Mike Van Diem, winner of the 1998 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for his film "Karakter."

The Castellana Caves continue to benefit from a strategy of ongoing promotion through new media channels and targeted synergies such as that with Puglia Promozione and the Puglia Film Commission, the result of a relationship consolidated over recent years.
