THE WHITE CAVE REOPENS TO VISITORS

A TECHNICAL INTERVENTION IN RECORD TIME RESTORES SAFE CONDITIONS

Castellana Grotte, October 12, 2013 – The wonderful White Grotto is once again accessible,  evocative for its total whiteness and destination of thousands of tourists every year, which for a few days was closed to visits for a technical intervention on the ventilation system.

Last Thursday, in fact, following a malfunction of the compressor located in the final section of the underground cave system (Caverna della Cupola), measurements indicated higher-than-normal CO2 levels. This fact prompted the Board of Directors of Grotte Srl to close the Grotta Bianca to ensure maximum safety for tourists and operators.

A courageous and wise decision that not only allowed us to replace the malfunctioning part of the aerator, but also to obtain values that were even better than the parameters acquired from measurements taken in previous years, during the same period.

"The new compressor was installed on Thursday – underlines Domi Ciliberti, president of Grotte Srl – The test took place the following day. Starting Saturday, we began taking measurements, continuously monitoring CO2 levels. To speed up the ventilation process, large fans were installed to move the air and extract carbon dioxide from the White Grotto, pushing it outward. This timely and meticulous intervention allowed us to maintain the safety and efficiency that distinguish this marvelous karst site, which, starting today, tourists from around the world can once again admire in all its beauty.".
