CASTELLANA CAVES: RECORD-BREAKING START
In the first weekend of the high season, the Castellana karst site recorded a record number of visitors compared to last year, with peaks of 15% more on Easter Monday alone.
Castellana Grotte, March 30, 2016 – A truly exciting start to the peak season for Grotte di Castellana Srl, which, according to data, has set another record in terms of visitors. On Easter Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, approximately 6.500 people visited the Castellana Grotte, an 11% increase over 2015. On Easter Monday alone, over 3.800 tickets were sold, a 15% increase over the same day last year.
"We are particularly pleased with this result," commented Domi Ciliberti, president of Grotte di Castellana Srl, "because it was achieved despite discouraging national data. This year in Italy, in fact, there was a 20% drop in departures over the Easter weekend."
The repeat performance of “Hell in the Cave,” held for the first time on Easter Monday evening, also drew a packed house, as well as receiving the inevitable praise of the audience in attendance.
"Another particularly satisfying fact," Ciliberti emphasized, "regards the related industries: the Castellana accommodations we work with have been fully booked with tourists. They tell us that demand has exceeded supply. These facts demonstrate what we have always believed: that Grotte is synonymous with added value for the entire town of Castellana. I would like to thank all the Grotte staff who masterfully managed a significant influx of tourists without compromising on professionalism. Finally, thanks to the Municipal Police force, who actively contributed to managing the enormous number of vehicles that passed through the Grotte area."
