Lo study on the karst environment, with its challenges and the precious, ancient resources it generously offers, is constantly evolving; just as the need to safeguard such fragile and unique places is growing and increasingly evident.
The laboratory “GeoTour” will be a medium through which the phenomenon underground ed epigeal which regulate the phenomenon "'karst'” offering itself as a perfect introduction to the tourist visit to the cave.
The contact (not only visual) with different types of rocks, the experiments, the vision of The fauna hypogeum and calcareous concretions varied and from different origins, will stimulate the learning of phenomenon biological, processes e physical so far from our daily lives that they seem almost “impossible”.
Subsequently, it will be possible to carry out the experiential visit inshort itinerary with a guide who will draw on the educational experience to illustrate the beauty of the karst site.
Objectives

METHOD
Method Interactive This is achieved through direct contact with rock types (intrusive/effusive magmatic, sedimentary, metamorphic) and numerous minerals. The chemical/physical characteristics of the various rocks and their transformations will be illustrated.
Students will have the opportunity to "touch" a large number of "speleothems" (calcareous concretions found in caves) and to understand their genesis and profound physical differences by experimenting with the dissolution of calcium carbonate using laboratory materials.
Further experiments will help us to understand the fundamental properties of water and the genesis of most calcareous concretions and of both underground and underground environments.

Caves&Stars
THE COSMOS AND THE WONDERS OF THE STARRY SKY

Caves&Stars It is an experiential workshop organized in the Castellana Caves in collaboration with the Aps Sirio and SottoSopra and takes place by reservation and after the daily closing of the underground site.
The excursion is organized in sensory modality by specialized personnel and allows you to travel along a section of the cave located in the "large caves" area alternating teaching and disclosure to experiences of a synaesthetic type and emotional.
The cave experience will stimulate the understanding of the sensations of the first explorers, their fears and the emotions generated by the unknown: it will be the concept of “time” revealed highlighting the link between geological time and astronomical time, between inner exploration and infinite space, allowing an effective introduction to the second laboratory experience, the physical/astronomical one.
After about 1 hour of experiential visit, in fact, the participants are accompanied to the Museum, where another "journey" will begin, this time towards the immensity of the cosmo and the wonders of the starry sky.
After a brief introduction on the aims and objectives of scientific research by the expert astronomers of theSirius Astronomical ObservatoryThe starry sky is illustrated, with the various constellations, asterisms, and astronomical objects visible at our latitudes. Participants learn to recognize the brightest stars and orient themselves by finding the cardinal points using only the naked eye.
Subsequently, the laboratory includes direct viewing of the telescope of celestial objects visible during the evening.
La duration total of the experiential laboratory is about two hours and 30 minutes, divided into 1 hour for the emotional visit of the large Caves and 1 hour and 30 minutes for the experience at the astronomical observatory.
It is specified that if for meteorological reasons astronomical observation outside is not possible, a reception room is set up inside the Museum, where some astronomical themed workshops are activated, with viewing of 3D movies and planetary in 2D, called Stellarium.

LEARNING UNDERGROUND

An opportunity to learning in the underground which will lead participants to admire one wonderful sceneryThe itinerary is 1 km long and lasts about 50 minutes, starts from the Grave, reaches the Caverna del Precipizio and ends again in the Grave, the first and only cave communicating with the outside.

A ONE-OF-A-KIND EXPERIENCE

A teaching experience one of a kind, 70 meters deep, through a visit lasting approx 100 minutes participants will travel a complete itinerary up to to achieve a spectacle that has no equal elsewhere, the White Cave an alabaster treasure chest that has led to this cave being defined as the “most splendid in the world”.

A spectacle of macroscopic dimensions, a multimedia setup grandiose and important, capable of embracing the entire natural environment as a scenic space, where innovative theatrical dynamics will capture the audience to lead them on an extraordinary adventure in theInferno of Dante.

IN THE CAVES OF WONDERS

Debuts Alice in the Caves of Wonders, A new immersive experience e Interactive which transforms the Castellana Caves into a magical scenery and unforgettable.
This is not a show in the Caves, but a show for the Caves: an event designed to tell the story, respect, and enhance the karst heritage.
You will be the one to play Alice! Following the White Rabbit along the short tourist route, you will pass through an underground world full of crazy and surprising characters.
The ending? You'll write it together, audience and actors, over a delicious cup of tea and biscuits, reflecting on themes like water and karst phenomena.
