ITALIAN CINEMA PASSES THROUGH THE CASTELLANA CAVES
THE CASTELLANESE STAGE OF THE FILM FESTIVAL FROM JULY 4TH TO 6TH
INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
Castellana Grotte, June 29, 2017 – Two icons of the small and big screen like Sandra Milo and Marisa Laurito and the well-known actor Ivano Marescotti alongside promising performers like Ivana Lolito (“Angela” from “Cado dalle nubi” with Checco Zalone and in the cast of Gomorrah) and then young and established directors.
The program for the 15th edition of SA.FI.TER, the International Short Film Festival, was presented on Wednesday, June 28th. For the third consecutive year, the festival will stop at the Castellana Caves. From July 4th to 6th, the traveling festival, which explores the most beautiful corners of Puglia, will stop at the Castellana Caves with a rich program of events and screenings. It's an unmissable opportunity to meet both well-known and lesser-known figures in Italian cinema.
At Wednesday's press conference at Palazzo Celestini in the San Severo Town Hall, speakers included Romeo Conte, Festival Director; Francesco Miglio, Mayor of San Severo, where the Festival kicks off; and representatives of the Grotte di Castellana company, led by President Marica Pace and Artistic Director of Grotte srl, Pino Savino.
After the presentation of the detailed programme of the Festival by the artistic director Romeo Conte, the floor was given to Marica Pace, President of the Castellana Caves, who emphasized how the Castellana Caves in recent years have become not only a place to visit for their great naturalistic value, but also a venue for high-level artistic and cultural events. The collaboration with the film festival fits into this precise promotional strategy.We are pleased to renew our appointment with the International Short Film Festival, which brings directors, authors, and actors of Italian cinema to the Castellana Caves. – Marica Pace highlighted – A precious opportunity to promote our karst site thanks to famous faces from the cinema".
In past years, the Festival has already brought to our Caves artists of the caliber of Marco D'Amore, Veronica Pivetti, and Gianmarco Tognazzi, just to name a few.
This year's Castellana leg will open on July 4th in the town's historic center, in Largo San Leone Magno, with a screening of the film "The Greatest Dream" (8:30 p.m.), followed by a discussion with director Michele Vannucci and actors Ivana Lotito and Mirko Frezza.
July 5th will be dedicated to the "Children World" short film competition. Approximately one hundred students from Salento will participate, along with a delegation of students from the Angiulli-De Bellis Institute in Castellana Grotte, who will serve as a special jury for the competing short films. It will be a day entirely dedicated to children's cinema: from 10:00 a.m. to approximately 6:30 p.m., students will attend screenings at the Castellana Caves and will also have the opportunity to meet directors and actors. A special tour of the first caves of the karst site is also planned for the young participants. The "Children World" day will conclude at 4:00 p.m. with a screening of the film "Il segreto di Pulcinella" in the cave, starring director Mary Griffo and actors Marisa Laurito and Bruno Leone.
After the children's section, at 8:30 pm, the Caverna della Grave will provide the evocative backdrop for the screening of the short films in the "Comedy Short" section. Speakers will include: Federica Pacifico (director of "The Death of the Author" – Best Comedy Short Film), Daniel Bondì (director of "Do You Know Someone?" – Best Direction – Comedy Short Film), Mary Griffo, Armando Fusco, Marisa Laurito, Bruno Leone, Filippo Ricci, Valentina Di Giuseppe and Massimiliano Leone, Massimo Cappelli, and Sandra Milo.
The SA.FI.TER will close on July 6th at the Grotte with the last of the scheduled screenings (at 8:30 pm): the film “Smetto quando voglio 2 – Masterclass” by Sydney Sibilia, in the presence of the well-known actor Ivano Marescotti alongside Moreno Sgherri and Giuseppina Gabriella Cafaro and Andrea Di Maria.
