The Castellana underground world returns to the big screen with a film by Simona Izzo.
Castellana Grotte, February 8, 2015 – Simona Izzo and her staff made an exceptional visit to our caves for a site inspection with the aim of filming some scenes for her next film right here in the Castellana underground site.
The famous actress and director had already walked the three kilometers of underground passages at the age of ten and was so impressed that, once the screenplay for this new production was written, she immediately imagined them as the ideal setting for the film's most significant sequences. Production will begin this spring, and Michele Placido has already been rumored as one of the leads, while local extras will be cast for other parts.
Izzo also visited the offices, where she was welcomed by Vice President Vincenzo Montaruli, Director Giulia Monaco, and the communications team, to express her willingness to further promote the caves with a documentary film entirely dedicated to what she herself described as "a heritage of inestimable beauty." This is an honor and an opportunity that Grotte Srl will not miss, so much so that a working group has already been formed to seek funding through a European call for proposals for film productions.
