Sunday January 23 2022 There will be two moments dedicated to the eighty-fourth anniversary of the discovery of the Castellana Caves. In the morning, from 11:00, an institutional event will celebrate and remember the events of 1938, when the speleologist Franco Anelli he descended for the first time into the Grave cave and began the exploration that led him, together with the Castellanese Vito Matarrese, Discovering one of Puglia's most stunning natural sites. A brief ceremony attended by administrators and authorities commemorated the feat of January 23, 1938, and those who made it possible.
In the evening, however, at 20:30 (box office at 7.30 pm), the show will be on stage Hell in the Cave, a free performance of the first canticle of the Divine Comedy set in the Grave cave. The cast will be joined by the actor Hector Bassi, who will be a special guest in the event scheduled for the anniversary of the discovery of the Castellana karst site, intervening in some moments of the show to recite the verses of the opera accompanied by live music by Paul Peace e Giuseppe De Trizio, authors of the soundtrack of Hell in the Cave.
After those of the holiday calendar, therefore, another opportunity for the public to experience the show that combines dance, voices, sounds and lights, capable of embracing the entire natural environment of the largest cavern of the Castellana Caves as a stage space and which is born from a suggestion and a great love for the language and the work of Dante. Directed by Enrico Romita and the dramaturgy of Giusy FrallonardoFor each performance, Hell in the Cave brings together actors, performers, and dancers who offer audiences a thrilling performance, while the evocative power of Dante's verses blends with a unique natural setting. The chosen cantos are among the most famous, featuring characters such as Lucifer, Minos, Pier delle Vigne, Ciacco, Paolo and Francesca, Count Ugolino, Brunetto Latini, Ulysses, and Beatrice.
