Great opportunity for the underground site to host one of the largest events in southern Italy
Castellana Grotte, February 11, 2015 – The enchanting setting of the Castellana Caves will host the opening night of the Salento Finibus Terrae Festival, a traveling festival now in its thirteenth edition, founded and directed by Romeo Conte.
The renowned festival, which will take place from July 16th to 26th, has brought Italian and international cinema to numerous evocative locations in the Alto Salento region, extending, this year for the first time, to the outskirts of the Itria Valley, choosing Italy's most visited caves as the opening venue. The Artistic Director was delighted and enthusiastic to accept the invitation of the President of the Castellana Caves, Domi Ciliberti, to screen the films competing in the "Environment" section in this enchanting setting. This will be a rare and exceptional event, providing an opportunity for cinema and the environment to meet in one of the most fascinating and unique locations in the world.
The opening evening will feature Professor Grazia Canuto, a professor of Environmental Criminology and President of the "Ethics and Environment" Technical-Scientific Observatory for the protection of the environment and its territory, and an international expert on issues of land protection and recovery. Professor Grazia Canuto will serve as jury president, along with many other prominent figures from the worlds of film and journalism.
