On the occasion of the Christmas holidays and in the context of Piazze d'Inverno, the extensive programme of events in Castellana Grotte (Ba), scheduled from 7 December 2022 to 23 January 2023 and organised by the Municipality of Castellana Grotte and Grotte di Castellana srl, the Castellana Caves will host several unmissable international events that will complement the karst site's rich tourist offering. In the week leading up to Christmas, three major events will take place in the evocative setting of the Grave cave: Giobbe Covatta in "Recital," "Giuliano Sangiorgi Canta Le Stelle," and "Piano a Mezz'aria."
The first appointment will be Sunday 18 December at 20:00 with Job Covatta in “Recital”. Without neglecting the music, on stage, Covatta will entertain in keeping with his style, where irony and satire intertwine at times with science and at other times with the Charter of Children's Rights. Also on stage are Ugo Gangheri (strings), Giosy Cincotti (accordion and piano), and Ernesto Nobili (guitar).
Great music returns to the caves Wednesday 21 December at 21pm with "Giuliano Sangiorgi sings the Stars"Inside a magical and mysterious place like the Grave delle Grotte di Castellana cave, where time seems suspended, Giuliano Sangiorgi retraces the stages of his artistic development, interpreting the songs of the best Italian singer-songwriters, who, like Stelle, guided him along the path of his (and not only) musical growth, thus influencing his imagination and his poetics.
Finally, Thursday, December 22th at 21:00 am it will be the turn of “Piano in Midair”, an amazing aerial performance by Bruno Montrone at the piano. The abyss of the Grave cavern will house a piano and its pianist, lowered from over 65 meters above, suspended in mid-air. Everyone will be looking up into the depths of the earth to admire a unique concert and be transported by the piano's notes and the performance of some of the world's greatest pop hits, revisited with soul and jazz influences.

Christmas in the Caves is organized by Grotte di Castellana with the patronage of the Municipality of Castellana Grotte, a project carried out in collaboration with Pugliapromozione WeAreinPuglia, the Regional Tourism Agency, and Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, using FSC 2014/2020 FUNDS PACT FOR PUGLIA “STRATEGIC TOURISM PLAN PUGLIA365 COMMUNICATION AND ENHANCEMENT OF THE DESTINATION AND THE TOURISM PRODUCT”.
As for Piazze d'Inverno, the inauguration is scheduled for December 7th at 18:00 PM in Largo Porta Grande with the Dancing Fountains show, a musical light and water show, a kaleidoscope of light and color, reflections and sensations, with lapilli and jets of water dancing to the music. The free show will also be repeated on December 8th and 9th at the same time. Among other events during the first week of the Christmas program, two live performances will alternate in the central Piazza Garibaldi: Colfischiosenza (Saturday, December 10th at 21:00 PM) and Beppe Delre in "Christmastime" (Sunday, December 11th at 21:00 PM).
The artistic nativity scene, created by Grotte di Castellana srl and the Municipality of Castellana Grotte with the support of the 1171 cultural association, will be inaugurated on Thursday, December 8th in the municipal cloister.
